Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax Advisory Committee meets to discuss future plans
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Members of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax Advisory Committee met Monday evening. They say all the parks and recreation projects are on schedule.
Instead of building three fire stations as planned they are building four. But, we’re told, the original plan of getting 190-million dollars from the voter-approved SPLOST in 2011 will probably come up 10-million dollars short.
Clay Murphey, a SPLOST Advisory Committe member said, “Sales tax revenues have declined each and every month and the state of Georgia Department of revenue puts part of that blame on Internet sales. Some websites don’t charge state sales tax so revenue is not collecting as much revenue as we were in the past.”
Because of the deficit some storm drain projects throughout the county will not get done.
Voters will decide if they want the penny sales tax to continue on November 8th.
