MCRAE-HELENA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A boil water notice continues for the City of McRae-Helena after the city issued a boil water notice Sunday afternoon following a problem at the prison water tank that caused water pressure in parts of the system to drop to dangerously low levels.

According to an advisory from the city, the pressure drop created a potential health hazard because water of unknown quality can flow backward into the distribution system when pressure falls to zero.

Residents who experienced outages or low pressure are urged to boil all water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking or preparing baby formula. The notice remains in effect until the system is fully restored and microbiological testing confirms the water is safe.

Anyone with questions can contact the City of McRae-Helena Public Water System at (229) 315-1982.
