UPDATE: Lanes reopen after crash shuts down Coliseum Drive lanes near I-75/I-16 interchange

Deputies urge drivers to avoid Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and the I-75/I-16 interchange after the Friday afternoon crash.

UPDATE (5:40 p.m.) – According to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the scene has been cleared and all roads have reopened.

ORIGINAL STORY:

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A semi-trailer overturned Friday afternoon at Coliseum Drive and Main Street, shutting down all northbound lanes of Coliseum Drive and creating heavy congestion around the I-75/I-16 interchange.

According to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release, the crash happened at 3:47 p.m. when a semi traveling west on Main Street overturned while turning onto Coliseum Drive. No injuries have been reported.

Deputies are asking drivers to stay away from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard northbound toward Coliseum Drive. They also ask anyone traveling west on I-16 to avoid Exit 2 onto Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The release said drivers headed toward Coliseum Drive should use the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Riverside Drive intersection as a detour.

As of 4:47 p.m., GDOT’s 511GA map shows significant congestion around downtown Macon corridor and the I-75/I-16 interchange.

The sheriff’s office said it will send an update once all lanes reopen.
