Gary Thigpen joined the 41 First Alert Storm Team in July 2017. He is originally from Florida but has lived in Macon for the past 15 years. His obsession with weather began when he was in his teens as he would keep a daily journal of the weather conditions for his local area.
Having grown up in Florida, he has also been exposed to numerous hurricanes that would strike the state from time to time. He also started his career in broadcasting working at a local radio station in his late teens and quickly developed a love for radio broadcasting. After working at several radio stations, he accepted a position to work as a VJ (Video Jock) and hosted a live, 2 hour video program on a local TV station in South Georgia. A few years after moving to Macon, he then accepted a position as a talk show co-host on a local, 3 hour, daily, live show on another local TV station in Macon.
However, his love for weather and weather forecasting, soon compelled him to apply for a Weather Forecaster position on 41 NBC. When offered the job he gladly accepted and now you can see him from time to time forecasting the local weather here in Macon on 41 NBC.
