MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – 31 murders have plagued Macon and some of those crimes involve teens. That’s why community members are looking solutions to keep youth safe.
The Boys to Men Mentoring Macon is for men to unite and become part the solution. Organizers say we are losing too many of our youth to gun violence and the jail system. The project acts as an umbrella for existing organizations to try attracting mentors.
Organizer TJ Hudson says they aren’t focusing on a specific age group, but starting early will help keep kids out of trouble.
“The kids need time. They don’t money. They need time, they need men in their life that care about what kind of grades they make, that care about their behavior in school, that care just about their overall being. I’m a firm believer of men in these problems and many things that happen in Bibb County might not have happened had these boys, that were angry, had someone they could call,” he said.
Hudson says mentors have to relate to the kids.
Hudson held an informative meeting about the project at the Theron Ussery Community Center on North Macon Park Drive.
