MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Baseball season is right around the corner, and a new first is about to happen in the city of Macon.
The Macon Bacon are 100 days away from opening night, and the team held a fan gathering Wednesday afternoon to recognize the milestone as organized baseball prepares to return to Middle Georgia.
Steve DeLay, co-owner of the Bacon, was on hand to give updates on Bacon themed events, the state of the team itself, and the ongoing renovations to Luther Williams Field.
“We’ve had tremendous ticket sales,” DeLay said. “And now with 100 days left, now we know when everyone is getting excited. Spring training has started, and all the baseball activities start to ramp up, so especially when steel starts going up and things go vertical, the fans and community are really going to jump on board.”
Next up for the Bacon is to unveil their mascot, after 2,200 suggestions, and to develop a roster and field a team.
Opening night is June 1st versus the Lexington County Blowfish.
