SANDERSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Deputies accused in the in-custody death of Eurie Lee Martin had their first appearance in court on Wednesday in Emanuel County.
Johnson says with the help of new laws in Georgia, they’re confident justice will be served for Eurie Lee Martin and hundreds of others who’ve died at the hands of officers.
“What we didn’t get right in Baltimore, Ferguson and New York City we’re gonna get right in Sandersville, Georgia and we’re going to get it right. Why? Because important criminal justice reforms have been enacted here in Georgia,” said Johnson.
Those officers are facing the following charges: two counts of felony murder, two counts of involuntary manslaughter, one count of false imprisonment, one count of aggravated assault, one count of reckless misconduct and one count of simple assault.
