MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – There are a few things you need to know if you’re getting a late start to frying your turkey this Thanksgiving.

The Consumer Product Commission says it is important to keep your fryer outside and away from your home.

Also don’t overfill the oil because it can catch fire if it overflows.

Experts say to make sure the turkey is thawed and dry to prevent boil overs and never leave the fryer unattended.

The organization says it has received over 200 reports of turkey-fryer related fires, burns, and explosions since 1988.
