MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A local family is embracing a new tradition this Thanksgiving. The Brown family is sharing their feast with the community.
Shirley Brown is used to cooking a big feast for her family, but the last two Thanksgivings, she’s been making a lot more.
“At first I said, Lord, I gotta cook again,” said Shirley. “But I really enjoy cooking the food.”
Shirley wanted to help her daughter, Amber bring a new tradition to Downtown Macon. They wanted to make sure every person had a proper Thanksgiving meal with love.
“We figured that we’d get more people to come and eat, sit down, talk, fellowship,” said Amber.
With help from other families, Amber and her mom were able to feed more than 100 people Thursday afternoon.
“I just enjoy cooking, seeing people eat, enjoying themselves, nice conversation,” said Shirley. “I get to meet all kinds of of people from everywhere.”
Shirley says it’s more than just being able to give someone a plate.
“When they come here and get a plate, they are my family,” said Shirely.
Amber says this is the second year they hand out food in front of Raffield Tire. She plans to keep doing it every year.
