MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon-Bibb Fire Department is hard at work bringing Christmas to downtown Macon. Firefighters are putting up the big Christmas tree in front of the Government Center.

This is a task the fire department does every year, and it’s not just the tree. Firefighters, hang all of the decorations throughout downtown.

Captain Michael Williamson says he truly enjoys this favorite time of year.

“The guys being together and then the people in town just coming out and saying how they appreciate us coming around putting the lights up,” said Capt. Williamson. “Especially all the businesses in downtown and stuff. They really appreciate us putting up the stuff because it makes downtown look real ‘Christmasy’.”

The tree should be fully set up by Wednesday.

Of course, when the holidays are over, the fire department will have to take everything down.
