ATLANTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Zoo Atlanta says its 10-year-old Sumatran tiger, Emerson has died.
Emerson was a member of one of the rarest big cat species in the world.
The zoo says the tiger was showing a decline in health and stopped responding to veterinary treatment Wednesday evening.
Emerson came to the zoo back in May of 2017 and was on loan from the Jackson Zoo in Mississippi.
The zoo says Sumatran tigers are one of six remaining tiger subspecies that are all endangered.
Results from a necropsy should be available in the coming weeks.
