BONAIRE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – For more than six decades, White Diamond Grill has served serving up simple, southern, barbecue to the Houston County community.
“It started out very simply, we didn’t have paved roads back then,” White Diamond’s owner, Kerry Jay said.
The restaurant, in all of its simplicity, has seen the times change.
“Well we have a red light for one thing, so much more traffic now and there was nothing here except next door was a little fill-in station and on the corner over there was a fruit stand where you can buy produce,” Jay said.
The owners have changed with the times too, but not by much.
“My uncle Bud is the one that founded it and when he passed away my mother took it over and she ran it for a good many years and when she passed away I hated to see it leave the family so I decided to take it over,” Jay said.
Jay took us around her restaurant, something that for decades has been a big part of her life and the community’s life.
“We don’t do a lot of advertising, we don’t have to,” Jay said. “It’s just small but people really enjoy it.”
First, let’s take a look at your scores this week:

And here’s a restaurant that needs to step it up this week: Checker’s on Spring St. in Macon scored a 74. There was boxes of cups, boxes of containters and boxes of hot dogs store in a restroom. There were also multiple foods at the wrong temperature.
“We pit out back and everything we do is from scratch,” Jay said. “We sell, you wouldn’t believe how many hamburgers but we’re hear because of barbecue.”
Inside White Diamond Grill is food that just brings people out in the masses.
Fresh fries, onion rings, meats, Brunswick stew, hamburgers and more! Before 41NBC arrived, Jay says the place was packed! And having tasted the food, I can understand why. Good food, good service, and cleanliness – as advertised by a perfect health inspection score.
“We work at it, we work at it but we keep it that way not just because of health inspections but because I would not feed you anything that I would not eat myself,” Jay said.
White Diamond Grill in Bonaire is making the grade this week.
