KATHLEEN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Houston County landfill was awarded a landfill management excellence award by the Solid Waste Association of North American.
SWANA recognizes landfills that demonstrate success in managing employees and the environment. The Houston County landfill recently added a waste energy plant which allows it to turn waste into reusable gas.
“We changed some stuff on the facility,” said Houston County Landfill Superintendent Terry Dietsch, “We’re trying to make it better, and we’re trying to strive for excellence all the time. We just want the best facility we can have and protect the environment.’
The landfill plans to apply for the national SWANA award in the management excellence category.
