Good Friday evening to you!
I hope that you had a wonderful work week and that you're ready for a great (although cold!) weekend!
Tonight temperatures will cool into the mid 30s, under mostly cloudy skies. Outdoor plans will definitely be worthy of a jacket!
A strong shortwave will move eastward tonight, and will bring a small chance of a few sprinkles throughout your evening, but most of the moisture will stay to our north along the polar jet, or to our south along the subtropical jet.
A strong cold front will sweep through the state on Saturday, and it will bring much colder temperatures to Middle Georgia. Despite the cold weather, it's actually going to be a beautiful weekend with mostly clear skies Saturday and sunny skies on Sunday.
The pressure gradient at the surface is going to increase throughout your Saturday, meaning winds are going to be howling out there!
Winds gusting to 35 mph on Saturday will put Middle Georgia (and all of North GA) under a Wind Advisory from 10:00 Saturday morning through 7:00 in the evening. For all of the details on this Wind Advisory and what you need to do to protect yourself, click here.
Highs on Saturday will make their way into the lower 50s, but with the winds factored in, it will feel like the upper 30s by late afternoon.
Overnight lows will cool to the lower 20s, but it'll feel more like the teens and even single digits outside with winds Saturday evening gusting as high as 30 mph.
Sunday brings even cooler temperatures -- expect the upper 40s! (We're typically in the lower 60s this time of the year!)
Winds will gust as high as 20 mph during the day and 15 mph during the evening.
Lows on Sunday cool to the lower 20s.
With the arrival or this weekend's Arctic cold, you'll want to protect any tender vegetation that has already bloomed, and bring any outdoor pets inside. For more information on protecting others, pets, plants, and your pipes when it's cold, visit my blog by clicking here.
If you do have plans this weekend that require you to be out and about, be sure you've got all of your Winter gear handy. Dressing for the elements is important -- especially when wind chill values are in the teens and single digits.
