Background
Rachel Schaerr grew up in Rockville, Maryland with her six brothers and sisters. Her career began years ago when she anchored her high school’s newscast. Rachel is thrilled to be chasing her dreams and is privileged to be reporting for the 41 NBC news team. Georgia has treated her well so far; she loves the delicious southern food. Rachel graduated magna cum laude from Barry University in Miami, Florida where she majored in broadcast journalism with a minor in professional writing. While studying abroad in Thailand, Rachel was able to put her passion for journalism to work. She produced, directed, wrote and edited a documentary about Thai culture. The experience taught her a lot about a journalist's ability to delve into different lifestyles and cultures. Rachel's proudest moment came in college when she was recognized for her journalistic achievement and awarded the Ann Bishop Memorial Scholarship. While at Barry, Rachel interned with the Special Projects Unit at the CBS affiliate (WFOR) in Miami and worked as a producer for WPLG, the ABC station in Miami. When she's not at the station, Rachel enjoys volunteering at church, keeping in touch with family and friends, reading new novels, and working out. On the weekends you can find Rachel bargain shopping in downtown Macon and discovering new places to eat. If you have any story ideas feel free to email her at rschaerr@41nbc.com.
