Polish Skier Tests Positive for EPO at Olympics

The Polish Olympic Committee says cross-country skier Kornelia Marek tested positive for EPO at the Vancouver Olympics.

Marek, who helped Poland to a sixth-place finish in the women's 20,000-meter relay on Feb. 25, tested positive for doping after that race. She also finished 11th in the 30K mass start and ninth in the women's team sprint.

The "B" sample is to be tested Friday in Richmond, British Columbia.

Polish Olympic Committee spokesman Henryk Urbas says Marek has denied taking any banned substances.

Woods Crash Prompted Hundreds of E-mails to Patrol

The Florida Highway Patrol was flooded with e-mails criticizing their handling of the investigation of the crash involving golfer Tiger Woods that led to him admitting to extramarital affairs.

A review by the Orlando Sentinel found that the highway patrol and its umbrella agency, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, got more than 400 e-mails in the days after the November crash outside Woods' home near Orlando.

Lindsey Vonn Falls in Giant Slalom

Lindsey Vonn of the United States fell in the first leg of the final giant slalom of the season, opening the way for rival Maria Riesch to make up ground in the race for the overall title.

Vonn, seeking her third straight title, went into Thursday's race with a 225-point lead over the German. But Vonn lost balance
in the upper part of the course and tumbled over in heavy snowfall.

Ex-Spurs Player Alvin Robertson Returns to Jail

Former NBA All-Star Alvin Robertson, facing sexual assault of a child and sex trafficking charges, is back in jail in San Antonio after a judge increased his bond.

Prosecutors say they had asked that Robertson's bail be doubled to $450,000 on Wednesday after allegations surfaced that he was threatening two women. The 47-year-old Robertson was still in jail late Wednesday.

He has been accused of being part of a sex trafficking ring that kidnapped a 14-year-old girl. Robertson, through his lawyer, has
denied the allegations.

Rafael Nadal Preps for Wimbledon

Rafael Nadal will return to Queen's this year after he was unable to defend his title at the grass-court tournament in 2009.

In 2008, Nadal was the first man to win at the French Open, Queen's Club and Wimbledon in the same year, but his persistent
knee problems prevented him from defending his titles on grass at Queen's and Wimbledon last year.

He says there is now more motivation for him this year because he could not defend those titles. Nadal also says not being able to play at Wimbledon in 2009 was one of the toughest decisions of his career.

Bode Miller Decides to Skip World Cup Finals

Olympic gold medalist Bode Miller has decided to end his season early to rest a sore right ankle and will not compete at the World Cup finals in Germany this week.

U.S. Alpine team spokesman Doug Haney says Miller still doesn't know if he will return for the next World Cup season.

Miller has not competed since the Vancouver Olympics, where he won the super-combined gold medal and earned silver in the super-G and bronze in the downhill.

The American was not in the running for any World Cup titles. He also skipped two races over the weekend in Norway.

Jurors hearing the case against a man accused of killing Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams could soon hear closing statements, a day after the defendant declined to testify.

Prosecutors wrapping up their case against Willie Clark are expected to call two final witnesses Tuesday before attorneys sum
up their case and jurors begin deliberating.

Lance Armstrong Arrives in South Africa

Seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong has arrived in South Africa ahead of his appearance in the Cape Argus cycling race.

Armstrong flew into Cape Town late Monday and is set to ride in South Africa's biggest cycling event on Sunday.

The 38-year-old Texan has also said he hopes to meet Nelson Mandela during his weeklong visit.

Armstrong finished a disappointing seventh in the Vuelta de Murcia in Spain on Sunday and Team RadioShack sporting director
Johan Bruyneel has said his rider needs more preparation ahead of the Tour de France.

Horse of the Year Readies for 2010 Debut

Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra has put in a final workout before her 2010 debut in Saturday's New Orleans Ladies at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans.

The 4-year-old filly breezed 4 furlongs in 49 seconds under regular exercise rider Dominic Terry on Monday morning.

Trainer Steve Asmussen supervised the workout and said Rachel "went beautiful ... did very well, looked good."

The workout was Rachel's seventh this year, and Saturday's race will be her first since winning the Woodward Stakes at Saratoga on Sept. 5.

Thrashers Score 6 Against the Islanders

Niclas Bergfors scored twice, and Clarke MacArthur and Evgeny Artyukhin scored in their Atlanta debuts to help the Thrashers beat the New York Islanders 6-3.

Bergfors, another recent acquisition, has six goals in seven games since being obtained as part of the Ilya Kovalchuk trade with New Jersey.

MacArthur was acquired from Buffalo on Wednesday in a trade for two draft choices. Artyukhin came from Anaheim for a minor leaguer and a draft pick Monday.
