MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - A four star recruit is taking his talents between the edges. Shakenneth Williams will be playing wide receiver for head coach Mark Richt in the fall.
He's excited to play, and be close to home.
Going to your favorite school ever since you were in diapers is an incredible feeling.
Playing on your favorite school's football team, that's the cherry top.
Shakenneth Williams, the star wide receiver out of Rutland High School, signed his letter of intent to play at the University of Georgia.
A crowded cafeteria, including family, friends, teachers, and teammates congratulated Williams during his announcement.
"Georgia was my first choice. Then again, I'd fall back on Vandy (Vanderbilt), but you know I felt Georgia. Georgia was home to me. It's close to home so my family can come up there and see me play," Williams said.
He says that comeraderie in the locker room is something he'll miss.
"Its going to be something similar to it, but not having those same group of guys around you. I'm going to miss them, they supported me, and I wish them the best of luck, and they've been there for me since day one," Williams said.
But he's ready for the next level...
"I can help, and lead them as Freshman, and I'll just be ready to come and play," Williams said.
His parents say they couldn't be more proud, and they're happy he's becoming a role model in the community.
"Just real proud of him, and just glad that he's doing positive. It just lets other kids see that it doesn't matter, it's all about what you want and what you want to do," Williams mother said.
He'll be conditioning himself and working out until June ready to wear the old red and black.
Shakenneth plans to major in either early childhood development or physical education.
After college, his dream is to play in the NFL.
