Westside helps seniors graduate with lock-in

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - It's nearly that time for high school seniors--
graduation is approaching quickly.

And seniors at Westside High School are preparing for one of their final hurdles before getting that treasured diploma.

This afternoon, about 40 seniors attended a lock-in at the high school.

But this wasn't for hanging out--teachers were available to tutor students who wanted to pass the Georgia High School Graduation Test.

It's a test given by the state each year to allow students to show they're ready to graduate.

Dominique Nichols coordinated the event, and he says a Friday night at school will hopefully do the students some good.

"We decided we were gonna come together to do whatever we need to do to make that happen," said Nichols. "We've got consultants from as far as the central office. We've got people who haven't been in the classroom for 10 years, and then teachers from other schools, and teachers from Westside that are here to support our students in any way possible."

The students were rewarded with grilled burgers for dinner, and Nichols hopes they'll eventually receive a bigger reward--a chance to graduate.
