Walmart opening gives hope to applicants

Walmart set to open in Cochran.
COCHRAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - A well known supercenter is coming to Cochran, and it's bringing more than 150 job opportunities with it.

Walmart is set to open its doors on Dykes Street later this fall.

For some, the opening is a chance to get back into the workforce after falling on hard times.

“It's really hard times right now, and I'm on my own so I'm trying to be a man and take care of my priorities," says Tyrone Smith, 23.

Smith came to the Walmart Hiring Center after word spread the company was taking applications. He takes care of his ill mother, and hasn’t been able to find work in the area.

According to Smith, thousands have been looking for work after the closing of the Lithonia Lighting plant in 2012.

Now, with Walmart setting up shop, more opportunities are available to local residents, and Middle Georgians.

If you’re interested in a job opportunity, applications are available online, or you can visit the Walmart Hiring Center in Cochran:
