Two Former Forsyth Councilmen Sentenced to Federal Prison

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two former Forsyth city councilmen were sentenced to time in federal prison Tuesday.

According to United States Attorney Michael Moore, James Calloway will serve 24 months in prison and pay a $7,500 dollar fine. Desi Hansford was sentenced to 18 months in jail and will pay a $3,000 fine.

Back in September, both men pleaded guilty to accepting $20,000 from a water and waste treatment company. In exchange, they guaranteed votes to win the company a contract with the city. The company notified the FBI and worked with the agents during the investigation.

Hansford was a councilman for five years. Calloway served on city council for twenty two years.
