State Sen. Lucas celebrates nearly 40 years in office

Thursday evening, more than 50 people crowded into the Douglass Theatre to celebrate Lucas' time in office.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - After nearly 40 years as a public servant, David Lucas is still going strong.

And the State Senator representing the 26th District in Georgia plans to keep on going for a long time.

Thursday evening, more than 50 people crowded into the Douglass Theatre to celebrate Lucas' time in office.

Attendees included Bibb County Board of Education member Ella Carter and Mercer University representative Hugh Sosebee.

Lucas spoke about his recent legislative success, but said there is much more work to be done.

"We plan to be victorious and we're going to work mighty hard to make sure that people in the 26th senatorial district are represented," said Lucas. "And that we're not going to tell one community one thing and go to another community and tell them something different."

Lucas' wife Bibb County Commissioner Elaine Lucas was also present.

Lucas said in the last 40 years, he learned that it's not how smart you are, it's how many friends you have--he of course said that with a little chuckle.
