Sen. Carter: Georgia has one of the worst graduation rates

Democratic candidate for Georgia governor speaks out on education. He says the topic is his top priority.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Democratic Candidate Jason Carter is running for governor, and if Deal wins the republican nomination, Carter will have to face him.

Carter told 41NBC Georgia's school system needs a major makeover.

“Georgia today-we've lost 9,000 teachers from our classrooms over the last 5 years, and as we've done that class sizes go up. Georgia has one of the worst graduation rates in country,” Carter say, “The middle class has been left out over the last decade. We need an honest government that works for everyone. Right now, we're not getting that and I think we can't wait, and that's why I'm running for governor.

Carter currently serves as state senator.

He is running unopposed in the May 20 primary.
