MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - We all most likely have a fridge in our home, but do you know what is inside them? There are some dangerous materials that are toxic and when its time to get rid of your fridge, you need to do it safely. Brian Green from Georgia Power Company and Justin Rainer from JACO Environmental stopped by Daybreak to tell us more.
Georgia Power Company offers a refrigerator recycling program where you can have an old fridge picked up for free and get paid $50.
Many people are unaware of what is inside a fridge and how some of those materials are toxic. Green said older fridges waste energy and money.
Rainer demonstrated how they take a part refrigerators safely and showed how the materials pulled from a fridge can be recycled into other items.
