Quiz Bowl Team Finishes 3rd At National Tournament

Mount de Sales Academy's 2013-14 middle school quiz bowl team placed third in the nation at the Questions Unlimited National Academic Championship.
MACON, GEORGIA (41NBC/WMGT)-  The 2013/2014 Mount de Sales Academy middle school quiz bowl team placed third in the nation at the Questions Unlimited National Championship in New Orleans on Monday, May 26th. The Questions Unlimited National Championship is an invitation only tournament that takes place over the course of three days. Mount de Sales Academy quiz bowl team was just one of 70 teams competing from around the country. This years Quiz bowl team consisted of eighth graders Tom Ferrer, Aident Hintermaier, Daryl Strafford and Reese Waters; seventh graders Billy Chung and Ben Lemon; and sixth graders Georgia Pearson and Roman Vadini. Sixth grade teacher and quiz bowl coach Kieth Bartlett had nothing but great things to say about this team in regards to their performance in this years national championship. Coach Bartlett quoted, "This team is the most polite group of students who are always gracious whether they win or lose. Each student is an important part of the team and brings his own academic talents to each round of questioning. We had a great time in New Orleans, and I am proud of their hard work." The team dedicated the last two years in preparation for funding the trip. The team did everything from hosting car washes to selling t-shirs in order to cover the expenses of travel and logging for the 2014 tournament. 
 
The eighth grade tam members are veteran quiz bowl competitors, having started with the team in sixth grade. That years team ranked first place in the nation after winning an online version of Question Unlimited Tournament. In this years 2014 Unlimited National Championship in New Orleans the team won the preliminary rounds with a record of 6-0 to enter the final round as the first palce seed. They finished third place in the nation after losing a very close competition to last year's champions, Conway Jr. High School out of Arkansas.
