Play suspended for Mercer men’s golf at Raleigh Regional

The Mercer men’s golf team saw its opening round of the NCAA Raleigh Regional come to a premature end as play was suspended due to inclement weather Thursday afternoon at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
RALEIGH, N.C. (MERCER ATHLETICS RELEASE) – The Mercer men’s golf team saw its opening round of the NCAA Raleigh Regional come to a premature end as play was suspended due to inclement weather Thursday afternoon at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

Mercer’s players completed between 13-15 holes and currently stand in 12th place on the team leaderboard at 5-over par. Georgia Tech leads the field at 14-under par while Washing ton (-10) and South Alabama (-5) are second and third, respectively.

The first round is scheduled to resume on Friday morning and will be followed immediately by round two. Mercer will begin Friday’s action two shots behind Memphis for 11th place.

Junior Trey Rule and senior Hans Reimers lead Mercer with even-par totals and are tied for 26th place overall. Rule completed 13 holes on Thursday, registering nine pars and two birdies while Reimers played 14 holes with seven pars and three birdies.

Senior James Beale is tied for 55th place overall at 2-over par through 14 holes. Freshman Emmanuel Kountakis is tied for 65th place at 3-over through 15 holes while his classmate Sean Smothers is 75th at 8-over par.
