PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Perry City Councilman Joe Posey turned in his letter of resignation last week. A special election will be held to fill his empty seat.
Mayor Jimmy Faircloth tells 41NBC, Posey sent his resignation letter to him on Thursday, July 31st and it was effective on Friday, August 1st. Faircloth said Posey's letter cited personal family reasons for his resignation.
Perry City Council is holding a special meeting Monday afternoon to call for a special election to fill the District 2 Post 1 seat.
Faircloth says Posey served on city council for four years and seven months. Last year, he was re-elected for his second term and he ran unopposed.
According to the Houston County Board of Elections Office, qualifying for the newly open seat is Monday, August 11th through Wednesday, August 13th. Perry voters will cast their ballot for this special election during the general elections on Tuesday, November 4th.
