FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Grant Perry has been playing baseball as long as he can remember.
"It's been his dream," says his dad, Matt Perry. "He never played many other sports other than that, and he lives it and he breathes it."
Grant, who's 17-years-old, says he gets his work ethic from his dad, who actually used to coach him himself back in the day.
"He was pretty hard on me," Grant says, with a laugh. "But it was for my own good."
Grant has started for Peach County's baseball team since he was a freshman.
"He not only plays for Peach County, but he is involved in travel baseball," says Jeff Bailey, Peach County's head baseball coach. "He even plays at East Cobb. Through that East Cobb Baseball is where he got selected to be a part of that tournament out in Arizona."
The 2014 Under Armour Preseason All-American Tournament was held last week in Tuscon, Ariz. For Grant, playing aganst preseason all-americans from all over the country was really no different than playing right here in middle Georgia.
"It's just a little competition from everywhere," he says. "A little different styles of play," he says with a shrug of his shoulders.
It's easy to see not much rattles this kid, and with his last season of high school baseball coming up, he hopes all his hard work on the field--and in the classroom (where he holds a 4-0 GPA by the way)--will pay off for him at the next level.
"I know he's still got a number of goals he still wants to meet as a baseball player, as a student and as a young man," says Grant's dad. "We're (Matt and Susan Perry, Grant's mother) both really proud of what he's accomplished and how hard he's worked to get there."
Grant and the Trojans start their 2014 season on the road at Perry on February 18.
