No raise in taxes from Bibb County School Board

No raise in taxes from Bibb County School Board

The Bibb County Board of Education approved the 2015 tax levy.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Taxpayers won't see a raise in taxes from the Bibb County Board of Education.

This is the 6th year the school board has not raised or lowered its taxes.

Vice president of the board, Dr. Thelma Dillard, thinks this is great because it's not increasing taxes for Macon citizens.

The board didn't need to hold a public hearing since they didn't plan to change the levy, but they held one anyway.

"We want to be open and transparent to the public," said Dr. Dillard. "Allowing the public to know that we want to hear from them. This is public's business."

School board taxes are part of property taxes and they will be due in January.

Also at Thursday night's meeting, the board gave an update on its superintendent search.

The Georgia School Board Association has ranked the 43 applicants.

School board members will meet next Wednesday to start the reviewing process.
