ATLANTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - It is a long holiday weekend! Do you want to soak up the sun, but don't want to book a plane or travel somewhere far? You can head north on I-75 to Six Flag Over Georgia's newest water park, Hurricane Harbor.
"It's really awesome because it's water and I just love water!,” eight-year-old Jamie Holston said.
And there is plenty of it at the brand new, multi-million dollar park expansion at Six Flags Over Georgia in Atlanta. It has everything you could want at a water park, including slides that feature twists and turns, dark tunnels, and swirling bowls.
"What did you like about it?” 41NBC asked. “Just the drop. It's got a really good steep drop on it,” Josh Herrington said. “You go really fast once you hit the bowl part. It's really fun!"
The large 38,000 square foot Calypso Bay wave pool makes you feel like you're in the ocean. It produces four-foot waves every few minutes.
"I did like the waves, but one time it did almost go over my head,” five-year-old Stefan Mabry said.
For all you thrill seekers, you will want to check out Tsuanami Surge. It is the world's first every hybrid zero gravity slide.
"You go perpendicular to the ground and you feel weightless,” Gene Petriello, the communications manager for Six Flags Atlanta Properties said. “[It's] the first time in the world something like that has been built."
And you don't have to go far to getaway. Hurricane Harbor is bringing a little bit of the Caribbean to the Peach State.
"You don't need to come book a ticket, a trip, a plane, you can just come and book your ticket right here at Six Flags Over Georgia and come and enjoy this getaway atmosphere,” Petriello said.
Everyone at the park told 41NBC they were having a great time.
"I love having the water park here,” Stefan's mom Nicole Mabry said. “The kids love to get in the water and float around in the inner tubes and just have a really good time."
"I can't wait to explore everything else,” Herrington said.
"It is so much fun! I can't wait to spend the whole summer here. It is going to be a blast,” Jamie's mom Elaine Holston said.
The new Hurricane Harbor water park is open now. It is included with your ticket to Six Flags Over Georgia.
Also, Coca-Cola July 4th Fest is going on now through July 6th. There will be fireworks every night. If guests bring a can of Coke or are a 2014 season passholder, you can get into the park an hour early during the event to ride the popular roller coasters.
Visit the theme park's website for ticket prices and more information.
