New Giant Voice improves notification capability

The Air Force’s only active duty combat communications unit is getting a “giant” improvement in mission capability.

ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Georgia (RAFB Public Affairs) - The Air Force’s only active duty combat communications unit is getting a “giant” improvement in mission capability.

The 5th Combat Communications Group here recently added four new Giant Voice systems to its arsenal.

Unit officials say the upgraded systems will provide improved safety for the deployed warfighter with louder alarms and sirens, and an expanded coverage area.

The new systems replace four older ones and have many upgrades. Among the improvements, the systems are equipped with solar panels that provide a trickle charge to the battery packs.

Additionally, the systems have new software and hardware which permit them to be remotely operated. This allows warnings and other announcements to be made at a moment's notice.
