New academy preps student for college and career path

The Heart of Georgia College and Career Academy opens for students interested in learning hands-on experience in various trades.
DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A new school in Middle Georgia is working with several counties to prepare high school kids for college and their future career paths.

The Heart of Georgia College and Career Academy partnered with Dublin City Schools, Laurens, Bleckley and Wheeler County School Systems to launch the new school within the upcoming year.

Communications liaison for Dublin City Schools, Michelle Thublin, says it will be the first academy in the state to offer advanced level courses from the Southern Regional Education Board.

“It's going to be just a great bridge, because it starts off with ninth grade and then they get to  do it for ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade,” says Thublin.

She added the opportunity will provide hands-on experience in various trades, like computer technology, logistics and more.

If you're interested in enrolling your child for the next school year, or want more information, the Heart of Georgia College and Career Academy will host an informational meeting at the Oconee Fall Line Technical College in the YKKK room in the Porter Center.

The meeting starts tonight at 7:00 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m.
