Murder victim’s mother speaks out: ‘He didn’t deserve this’

Sanchez Robinson murdered by family friend.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It's been less than a week since the murder of 26-year-old Sanchez Chez Robinson. His mother, Regina Smith, says its time to speak out.

Robinson was murdered outside of the Chambers Pointe Apartment on Chambers Road in Macon by a close family friend, 24-year-old Dequantez Harris.

Bibb deputies made the arrested, and charged Harris with malice murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of felony.
Smith can't figure out why a close friend would be involved in her son's death

"I just want to know why. If he's looking at this, I want to know why. We trusted you,” Smith says, “My son trusted you. He was just like family. Why did you do this?"

Other family members believe Robinson was a good man who put his trust in the wrong person.

"He was just a kind person. I think that may have been his weakness. He was just too nice of a person. He shouldn't have trusted [Harris]," says Robinson’s cousin, ShaCarya Jackson.

Smith added her son was on the right path. She says Robinson would have started a full-time position at his job next week, and adds his goal was to make his family proud of him.

His girlfriend, Mercedes Thomas, announced they were having a baby. Today, Thomas found out what they were expecting.

"Yeah, we're having a boy. He had wanted a junior. I found this morning that we're having a boy,” says Thomas.

Smith and other family members are still in shock their Chez is gone.

"…To me he was the best thing that ever happened to me. It's just so hard right now. He didn't deserve this."

It’s a crime that took the life of a man who Smith says wanted to be a positive role model in the community, and to his four siblings.

"And they robbed him of it. He was trying to get his life in order," says Smith.

The family plans to press charges against Harris, and is currently seeking a lawyer based out of Atlanta.
