MTA possibly expanding BIRD program

Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority considering new route that will benefit residents in Houston County.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Residents in Macon and Warner Robins who work at Robins Air Force Base and the GEICO office might soon have an easier commute.

Officials with the Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority are considering expanding their park-and-ride program.

Buses into Robins Daily,
or the BIRD program, has three city buses that take Macon residents to Robins Air Force Base.

The addition will have a route for Houston County residents to get to the GEICO offices in Macon.

CEO Rick Jones says the new route would be more efficient.

"What we're going to do is that we're going to change some of the routing on the buses to where we have a bus that is circulating, that goes from the base to the parking lot and then circles and the two remaining buses that we'd have on the Robins Route would circulate between Macon and that parking lot," Jones said.

Jones says it will take a few months to get iron out all of the details, but he expects the route, should it be approved, to begin service on July 1st.
