Macon-Bibb County Commissioners are scheduled to vote Tuesday on turning the bus terminal building over to MTA.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Macon-Bibb County Commissioners are scheduled to vote Tuesday on turning over the Macon Transit Authority Bus Terminal to the city's bus company.

But first MTA is inviting the commissioners on Monday to tour the the building that was built in 1816.

To see first hand the extensive renovations MTA officials say they need in rooms, which hasn't been used since 1940.

MTA want those rooms restored so they can use the additional space along with repairs to portions of the building that is decaying.

"The purpose of them coming here is to take a look at what we can do if the terminal station is in our name and that way we can get federal funds," says MTA's Marketing and Facilities Director, Andy Stroud.

Stroud says MTA has a capital funds designated for bus repairs. The company is considering using $100,000 of those funds to renovate.

But MTA officials know they will need more money to completely renovate the bus terminal.
