FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) -- An assistant coach for a Monroe County recreational softball team is charged with two counts of felony sexual battery after authorities say he inappropriately touched two young girls on the team.
Investigator Allen Henderson with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office says 28-year-old Gary Golden was assisting in the dug-out with his step-daughter's team this year when the incidents happened.
Henderson says throughout the course of the season Golden got inappropriately physical with some of the girls while rubbing their arms and shoulders. The charges stem from two separate instances where Golden is accused of touching one girl on the rear end, and another in her private area.
The investigation began when a mother discovered Golden had been texting back and forth with her daughter. Henderson says there was nothing illegal or inappropriate said in the messages, but the mother was not comfortable with her daughter and the coach interacting via text. As the investigation began, Henderson found Golden also exchanged phone numbers with some of the other 12-year-old girls.
Since the victims are minors, the charges are automatically upgraded to felonies. Henderson took out a warrant for Golden's arrest on June 4th. He was taken into custody shortly after, and released from jail on bond.
