MONROE COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Firefighters in Monroe County are asking for the public's help. They're looking for volunteers to help battle blazes.
Fighting fires and saving lives is something Chad Longo takes pride in.
He's a part-time firefighter in Juliette.
Chad has bounded around in Monroe County, fire station to fire station, for a little less than a year.
"I highly recommend it. I mean I love the job. I recommend it to anybody. The physical part...it's a little physical, but you can do it," Longo said.
Monroe County's Fire and Emergency Services Department is looking for a part-time employees and volunteers, especially at their fire station in Juliette.
The county's Board of Commissioners recently looked over a petition requesting a full-time staff at the station 24/7.
"A lot of your part-time paid guys, which is what we are, they'll go to different stations and what not when they need somebody at a different station. If there is actually nobody here, if the volunteers are around then they'll call a volunteer in. If not they'll have to call another squad from a different area," Longo said.
Chief Ronald Norris says he wants more volunteers to work with and protect the growing community.
"In five years I would love to see the department being able to keep up with the county's growth and needs," Norris said.
Chad says his opportunities are endless. He's looking to continue to grow in the department and help wherever he can.
"It's just a passion, I mean I love it. I love helping people because there are people that need help and that's what I want to do and I want to give back to the community what they've given to me," Longo said.
