BOLINGBROKE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating an accident that left two men dead, two others injured, and blocked traffic for several hours on I-75 Sunday morning.
According to Allison Selman-Willis, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office PIO, the one-vehicle accident happened around 5 a.m. under the Pate Road overpass in Monroe County. The driver, 20-year-old Eddrick Gooddard, lost control of the car after a tire blew.
While maneuvering toward the emergency lane, the car hit the guardrail and flipped several times before resting upside down on the media. Goddard and his passengers, Shavar Taylor, 33; Reginald Patterson, Jr., 20; and Jarvis Dumas, 22 were ejected from the vehicle. Patterson and Dumas were pronounced dead at the scene and Goddard and Taylor were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
In a news release, the sheriff's office stated "seat belts were not in use at the time of the accident."
No charges are expected and the accident remains under investigation.
