Milledgeville Memory Hill Cemetery to be refurbished

Memory Hill Cemetery is scheduled to be included in Milledgeville's plans to upgrade Georgia State Route 243.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - One of Milledgeville's historic areas is getting a facelift.

City leaders are planning to use a $30,000 Georgia Department of Transportation Grant to refurbished historic areas of the city.

According to, the city's public works director, Frank Baugh, they are focusing on Georgia State Route 243, where Memory Hill Cemetery is located.

The cemetery dates back to 1804 and the trees inside the sprawling gardens of the cemetery are hundreds of years old.

Baugh says the area is the south entrance into the city.

"This is sort of the gateway to our historic district so I thought it was a very good candidate for the grant," says Baugh.

He says they are planning to start the project in the winter.
