Middle Georgia car sales follow successful national trend

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Car salesmen at 5-Star Automotive say Spring and Summer months usually treat them well.

But so far this year, it's been record-breaking.

National car sales are up--and so are Middle Georgia's.

"Now is definitely the time to buy a car," said General Manager of Sales Blake Scott.

And of course, Scott likes it that way.

"Our goal at 5-Star is to take care of the customer first and foremost," said Scott.

Salesmen at the dealership on Riverside Drive have been able to do just that.

And at 5-Star Automotive, deals on trucks and cars are all over the place.

"I expect an awesome deal, I expect a deal that I can wake up in the morning and say wow, that was a good deal," said customer Benjamin Collins.

Collins popped in Saturday morning looking for a car.

"I'm here to buy me a dependable vehicle, something that can last me a long time, something I can make some money in," said Collins.

The dealership can offer these kinds of deals because not only is Collins looking, but so is the rest of the nation.

"All of our stores--all the way from Atlanta to Stone Mountain to Macon to Warner Robins we had record months across the board," said Scott.

According to NBC News, automakers reported car sales in May were the strongest they've been since 2008.

"We go as the nation goes," said Scott.

And Middle Georgia's riding along.

"We had 100 car turnaround. We sold 100 more cars last month than the prior months," said Scott.

The summer months usually treat 5-Star well.

"Tax refunds, extra money to spend, school letting out, you know the summer, everybody's excited, the weather, so across the board it's just the recipe for buying a car right now," said Scott.

Collins says he's enjoying the ride.

"Yes that does help--that means I'm not the only guy buying a vehicle, so you can spread that good fortune around," said Collins.

Chrysler and Jeep specifically saw huge jumps this past month.

Scott hopes the sales will continue throughout the summer.
