MACON, Ga. (MERCER ATHLETICS RELEASE) – The Mercer men’s golf team landed three selections to the PING All-East Region team as senior James Beale, senior Hans Reimers and junior Trey Rule were honored in an announcement made by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday.
Mercer’s honors mark the first PING All-Region selections in program history and come on the heels of the team’s landmark 2013-14 season that resulted in its first ever Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.
Beale, Reimers and Rule join 22 other players on the All-East team, while a total of 157 players were honored across six regions. The award is the latest postseason distinction to come for the Mercer trio, as all three players were also named All-Conference first team selections earlier this year.
Rule – the reigning Atlantic Sun Player of the Year – finished his season with a 71.25 scoring average, two individual titles (Sun Trust Gator Invitational, Atlantic Sun Championship) and top-15 finishes in nine of 12 events. The Eatonton, Georgia native led Mercer with 121 birdies and shot in the 60’s on 10 occasions.
Beale posted a scoring average of 71.67 in 2013-14 while landing five top-five finishes and four top-20 placements. In 11 events, Beale tallied 115 birdies and shot in the 60’s eight different times.
Reimers garnered his All-Region nod after picking up three top-five, three top-10 and four top-20 placements in 2013-14. The Albany, Oregon native’s senior season was highlighted by individual medalist honors at the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship and saw him complete the year with a 72.14 stroke average.
After winning the program’s first conference title, Mercer’s season came to a close with an eighth place finish the NCAA Raleigh Regional on May 17. At the Regional, Rule tied for ninth place, Beale tied for 25th place and Reimers tied for 29th place.
