Mercer men's basketball to participate in CGI Great Alaska Shootout

MACON, Ga. (MERCER ATHLETICS RELEASE) – Pairings for the 37th annual GCI Great Alaska Shootout were announced Thursday afternoon, with Mercer men’s basketball among the eight-team men’s field as revealed by the University of Alaska Anchorage.

The men’s side of the event features a three-round tournament-style format set to be contested from Nov. 26-29 at the Alaska Airlines Center. The Bears are slated to open the event against Rice at 9:30 p.m. EST on Thanksgiving evening.

CBS Sports Network has signed on to air all four first-round games, both semifinals and the championship game of the event.

The GCI Great Alaska Shootout is the longest-running regular-season college basketball tournament in the nation, taking place every Thanksgiving in Anchorage since 1978. This year’s event marks the the inaugural tournament held at UAA’s brand-new, 5,000-seat Alaska Airlines Center.

Other squads vying for the title include host UAA, Pacific, Missouri State, Colorado State, Washington State and UC Santa Barbara. The Bears are guaranteed three games at the event, with a full consolation bracket to be played in conjunction with the main bracket.
