MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Mercer Bear fans welcomed the men's basketball team home on Monday with open arms after a devastating loss to the Tennessee Volunteers in the NCAA tournament.

"I don't think I’ve ever been so proud of a sports team in all my life," says Mercer fan, Ben Sandifer.

Hundreds of fans greeted the team once buses arrived on campus.

Student Timothy Lewis says the Bears are still champions no matter the outcome of the tournament.

"We have so much passion for these seniors for our school, and this was a way for the world to see what Mercer was about," says Lewis.

In the first round, the team beat Duke University 78-71, and lost to Tennessee 63-83 on Sunday.
