Mayor Robert Reichert joined more than 1,500 city mayors across the nation Tuesday afternoon to recognize the Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Mayor Robert Reichert joined more than 1,500 city mayors across the nation Tuesday afternoon to recognize the Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service.

The Mayor honored multiple service organizations in Macon-Bibb, including VISTA, which stands for Volunteers In Service To America.

Also honored was SeniorCorps, which serves senior citizens.

More than 50 people attended, and the mayor read a proclamation, declaring the day an official holiday.

"Whether you wanna volunteer to mentor a child, help an older adult with trying to stay in their home, help with meals on wheels--all these different things. We are indebted to AmeriCorps, SeniorCorps and VISTA for all that they do," said Reichert.

The Mayor also said there are so many opportunities to get involved, and he encouraged every citizen to donate their time to a good cause.
