Macon Water Authority chair candidates face off in upcoming election

Candidates vying for Chairman of the Macon Water Authority Board say they already have ideas about serving as chairman.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Candidates running for the Macon Water Authority Board Chairman are placing their experience ahead of everything else at the start of the race.

Sam Hart and Steve Rickman are vying for the chairman seat. Hart has served as the Bibb County Commission Chairman for five years, and Rickman has served on the water authority board for seven years.

Both men say they already have ideas about serving as chairman.

"Part of what we want to do as it relates to the water authority, really, is to protect that major, resource that important resource that we have and keep it sort of moving as it is,” said Hart. “We want to also protect the financial integrity of it."

"I would love to keep it operating as a business and taking those profits and re-invest back into the infrastructure and keep the rates low for all of our citizens," said Rickman.

Voters are scheduled to go to the polls May 20, to decide who they want as the new Macon Water Authority Board Chairman.
