Macon NAACP asking grand jury to decide if Sutton faces charges in shooting

The president of the Macon-Bibb NAACP is asking a grand jury to decide if Bibb County Deputy Clayton Sutton should face charges for a recent shooting that happened on March 20th.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) -- The president of Macon-Bibb's NAACP chapter, Gwenette Westbrooks, wants a grand jury to decide whether Bibb County investigator Clayton Sutton should face charges for a shooting that happened on March 20th.

Sutton shot a dog a few weeks ago while in pursuit of a man who was carrying drugs, according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

After that shooting, the man Sutton was chasing and another male bystander complained of injuries. The GBI is investigating and has not said whether or not a bullet hit or grazed the two men.

Bibb County District Attorney, David Cooke, did not pursue criminal charges against Sutton after he shot and killed Sammie Davis, Jr. in a Kroger parking lot in December 2012.

Westbrooks wrote in her letter, "Your office played a major role in the decision of not prosecuting the case. And again a shooting has taken place involving Clayton Sutton where unarmed persons were involved... We are asking at the time the investigation is completed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, that this case is presented to the grand jury to make the decision whether or not charges should be brought against Clayton Sutton."

Westbrooks also noted her organization respects and will not interfere with the GBI's investigation. She said she is confident the sheriff will make sure this is a transparent investigation.

According to GBI Special Agent in Charge, J.T. Ricketson, his office's findings should be presented to the sheriff and D.A. in the next few weeks.

She also told 41NBC over the phone she believes Sutton should be removed from the force, and not be allowed to work in law enforcement again.
