A suspect is in custody after reportedly stealing a car at knife-point and attempting to shoplift a firearm shortly afterward.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - A man is behind bars after stealing a car from a woman and later attempting to shoplift a firearm in North Macon Friday afternoon.

According to a news release by the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, 50-year-old Ket Derrick Peacock reportedly jumped into the unlocked passenger side of a woman's vehicle as she pulled up to a Bank of America ATM located at 1250 Gray Highway, and took out a knife. The woman immediately fled the car, allowing the suspect to drive off in her 2000 green Honda Accord.

It was then that Peacock allegedly drove to the Bass Pro Shop on 5100 Bass Pro Blvd. and made an attempt to steal a firearm. He was apprehended by Bibb County Deputies as he tried to escape from the store.

After further investigation, officers were able to link Peacock as the suspect to both crimes and retrieved the Accord taken from the Bank of America.

Peacock was transported to the Bibb County Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Office and charged with Armed Robbery and Theft by Shoplifting. No one was injured in either incident.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office would also like to remind the public to keep their car doors locked while driving in order to avoid any unwanted individuals from entering their vehicle, as well as hiding valuables away from plain sight and to be aware of their surroundings. Any suspicious persons should be reported to local law enforcement agencies right away.
