MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Ready or not, here it comes! The lights, sounds, and music of the holiday season are upon us.
As has now become a tradition in Macon, the Chick Fil A restaurant on Tom Hill Senior Boulevard, is fully decked out in Macon's largest Christmas light display.
The lights won't be turned on just yet though, you will have to wait until Saturday for that. (By the way, if you want to listen to 89.5 FM in your car while you order your meal, it just so happens the lights are perfectly synced up to the Christmas and holiday music playing).
But it isn't just the lights this year that are making our area great, it's Chick Fil A teaming up with Macon Area Habitat for Humanity for its annual Light More Homes 5k Run/Walk fundraiser as well.
This is one of the main fundraisers for Habitat for Humanity, one that hundreds have participated in for several years now. And as Jim Mercer of H.F.H. says, making a difference in someone's life by building a house, doesn't always mean swinging a hammer.
"Everybody that helps, that runs or walks, or takes a stroller, is helping to build a house. And if that's the level they want to participate on, that's a great level to participate on," Mercer said.
All the proceeds from this race will go directly into funding another new house to be built next year in the Lynmore Estates neighborhood in Macon.
A change though you need to make note of. In year's past, the race has started at 7:00PM, but this year, it's starting a little earlier. The event starts at 4:00PM, on Saturday November 17th, so prepare for a little bit earlier of a start time.
There are several options for registering for the Light More Homes 5k Run/Walk. Pre-registration is going on now, right up through race day. You can register at Active.com,
or at Macon Area Habitat for Humanity, or you can register at the race location. The staging area will be held at the Raffield Tire location behind Chick Fil A on Tom Hill Sr. Blvd.
