Macon celebrates 40th anniversary of Community Development Block Grant program

Macon-Bibb Economic and Community Development Department holds information fair to recognize National Community Development Block Grant Week.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Macon is acknowledging dozens of organizations and services that support lower income families.

Macon-Bibb's Economic and Community Development Department is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the community development block grant program.

It's part of the National Community Development Block Grant Week.

The funding from the grant program helps various services assist lower income neighborhoods to improve the quality of life in the area.

"If we don't have those people that are in the grassroots that are actually coming to us and saying ok this is what we are seeking for our neighborhoods, then it's kind of hard for us to really tell sometimes as to what's needed in some neighborhoods versus what we feel is needed," Wanzina Jackson, the director of the Macon-Bibb Economic and Community department said.

The programs Macon-Bibb's development department helps, receive funding for public service and minor home repairs.

More than one million dollars of those funds are going towards improving the community.
