Macon apartment saves green by going green

Ashley Towers received more than $38,000 in rebate from Georgia Power.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - One apartment building in Macon is saving money on their utility bill and going green in the process.

Ashley Towers in downtown Macon received $38,000 in rebate from Georgia Power.

The building's owner, Timothy Lam, installed solar panels on the roof several months ago, along with other energy efficient upgrades.

He says he's already seen a significant change in how much energy the building is saving.

"We know the difference. We know that it's 30 percent off, or a 30 percent discount from previous bills, so that's great," Lam said.

He said the cost of the upgrades was about $150,000.

He adds the main goal is to keep rent costs low for residents.
