Local Air Force Association chapter honors 19 at annual awards banquet

The Carl Vinson Memorial Chapter of the Air Force Association honored 19 people at its annual awards banquet Thursday.
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) -- Thursday, 19 people were honored for their commitment to serving our country.

The Air Force Association holds the awards banquet every year. This year's event was held at the Horizon Conference Center on Robins Air Force Base.

AFA's mission is to educate the public about the Air Force, as well as advocate for and support it.

The awards were given out in several different categories including engineer of the year and ROTC cadet of the year.

Retired Chief Master Sergeant Peggy Miller, who was awarded teacher of the year, works with the Junior ROTC program at Veterans High School.

"To me this program is basically a reflection of what my students are able to achieve and their some phenomenal students, so it makes the program really easy," said Miller.

Veterans senior, Cheyenne Daughtry, was named the outstanding Junior ROTC Cadet of the year. She's heading to Georgia State in the fall where she plans to join the army ROTC and study nursing.
